CHARLES DEVORE and DIANE

My Biography

After High School, I enrolled at Glendale College, working towards a degree in engineering making up all those classes I missed in High School. At nights, I worked swing shift at Lockheed on final assembly line of the F 104,

In the fall of 1958, I enrolled at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, in the Mechanical Engineering program. I got to throw my "cap into the air" in 1961.

I was recruited by General Electric Company "GE" into their Technical Marketing Program, and left for the GE, Large Gas Turbine factory in Schenectady New York in June 1961. While driving my 1952 Oldsmobile, ex-Highway Patrol car and visiting relatives along the way, the draft board was sending me the" welcome" letter. As luck would have it, there was only a 30 day appeal period, which was expired by the time I received the letter. So, in August 1961, after only four weeks with GE, my Oldsmobile and I, was heading back to California- (I just could not imagine winter boot camp in New York with snow on the ground).

After my two years military career, which actually was a great time, stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona working on "secret" military surveillance projects, I was back with GE in the Los Angeles Regional Sales Office, the corporate culture of transferring employees each two years to avoid developing ties outside of GE, caused me to re-evaluate my career with GE.

I met my wife, Diane, originally from Minneapolis Minnesota, in 1964. She was working at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in their Photo Lab. We were married in 1965 in Pasadena.

In 1965, I went to work for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power as a Mechanical Design Engineer. My Career with the Department of Water and Power (DWP) was great, it included:
- Design work on many of the DWP's power facilities and generating stations
- Budgeting and Cost Control for the Power System
- Engineer of the Fleet Engineering and Procurement group
- Engineer of Coal Fired Generation.

In February of 2000, I retired from the DWP as the "Engineer of Coal Fired Generation" where I was responsible for the City of Los Angeles' interest in three large coal generating stations. I served as the Operating Agent for the two 860 mega watt unit station in Utah and as member of the Operating and Engineering Committee for two generating stations, one in Page, Arizona and the other at Laughlin, Nevada. You would be surprised how much power is generated from coal and delivered to Southern California!!

We have raised two children (Jeff and Jill, now 31 and 33) and have three grandchildren Sadie, Sarah and Cooper, (born on my 65 birthday). We have lived in the same home at the top of La Crescenta, California (2550 elevation) since 1967.

Besides my wife and grandkids my, other pride is my 1967 Pontaic GTO convertible. It has been used in over 50 tv commercials, magazine advertisements, movies and music videos.

I enjoy playing golf with my friends from the DWP and Pasadena Senior Golf Club. I have just discovered the fun and enjoyment of doing business on e-Bay
