OUR BURROUGHS BAND
NEEDS OUR HELP!

Hi Class of 55

What a great time Deanna & I had at tonight's JBHS Band concert. These guys are really great. They sound like true professionals. The stuff they are playing is so much more difficult that what we used to do. They were extremely kind to my wife and I and the crowd in the auditorium gave a loud cheer when I told them that the $1,090 was from the class of '55. They had a showcase filled with pictures of the music dept. during the period 1952 to 1956 it was really great. If you think at a later date you might want to donate to the band fund you can send your contribution to JBHS-IMA, 415 So. Verdugo Dr. Suite 214, Burbank, CA 91502 or call Rick Mitchell (818-326-9651) Please mark it class of '55. Again, I want to thank the following people for their support:
Barry Knight
Tev Gray
Mamie Panarisi Worden
Linda Klingensmith Foss
Jay Smith
Gary Osborne
Bud Scanland
Joyce Lyle Haskitt
Dina Dixon

Keep up the good work Class of 1955

AND check out our band at JBHSBAND.ORG

Hey Gang!!

Thanks to the generosity of fellow classmates we are fast approaching a donation to band uniforms of $1,000. It would be really great to announce that the class of 1955 has given over $1,000 to help its school at their big concert December 15. Won't you help us by sending a donation of whatever you can to make this possible and let them all know which is the best class from Burroughs.

Send your donations to me or send your contribution to JBHS-IMA, 415 So. Verdugo Dr. Suite 214, Burbank, CA 91502 or call Rick Mitchell (818-326-9651) and mark them class of 55. Either way our class will get the recognition on the eve of the 15th.

PS Thanks to Terry W and others, I got all the pictures from yearbooks 1953 to 1956 and they will be blown up and put in the lobby that eve. If you can come, let me know

Attention all past members of the Burroughs band as well as all who supported them or who think they deserve our help. As you may or may not know, the Instrumental Music Association was formed by me in 1954. At the time it had one goal and that was to give the Music Department a say in Student Government politics. Well, over the past 50 years, that organization has grown into a parents booster group as well as its original student political group. The reason for this is because over the years, special interest groups (and we all know who they are) have devoured a bigger and bigger piece of the educational financial pie to a point where even to have the privilege of belonging to the band EVERY student is required to pay a $360 assessment fee EVERY SEMESTER! That money goes to providing basic items including transportation for the band as well as competition cost, etc., since the state quit funding all extracurricular busing!

No, none of the fee goes to items like band uniforms. The uniforms they are now using are 11 - 15 years old and must be replaced the cost to do this is approx. $43,000 for the 125 uniforms. Because of this the IMA members are having a raffle with prizes to be awarded at their holiday concert on Wednesday evening, December 15th. Price of the tickets are $1.00. I have decided to make a significant contribution to the IMA as a gift in honor of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Burroughs Instrumental Music Organization and in the memory of Robert Rose our beloved band leader. If you wish we would really appreciate a donation of $50, $100, whatever you feel comfortable with in order to help our band stay afloat. With the kids paying $700 a year out of their pockets as it is, we just can’t burden them with this additional expense.

If you would, please send your contribution to JBHS-IMA, 2219 Olive Avenue PMB 298, Burbank, CA 91502-1999 or call Rick Mitchell (818-326-9651) for further information. Please e-mail me letting me know you did so. We will then be able to award it in one lump as a gift from you and the class of 1955. You know we have the most active class at Burroughs and with band folks like JC Scott, Barry Knight, Don Garner and all the rest of you, I know we can give them some help. In addition, all Burroughs band Members who were active during the 1954-55 year are invited to come to the concert on the 15th where you will be honored. This could be fun. We could do a dinner prior to the event. Call Rick at the above number for further information.

Thanks,

Fred Roth
Treas. Class of 55

PS Anybody got some pix of the band that year? They would like to display them in the lobby of the auditorium that evening
