My Biography

Burroughs has always had special meaning in my life. My mothers maiden name was Burroughs, my grandfather was the schools custodian for 25 years, and I lived across the street from the school. My wife, Wendy (jbhs w'57) and I have been married since 1960, we have two sons and six grandchildren. We are both retired from careers as teachers. We have lived in Whittier, CA for 40 years.

After graduation I spent two years at Glendale College, a year at Sacramento State, eventually earning a masters degree in physical educaton form Cal State LA. The first three years of my teaching career were spent in Montebello. In 1963 I started what proved to be a 34 year tenure at Pioneer High in Whittier. I taugh history, government, and economics along with coaching football and track. I served as social studies department chairperson for 22 years. The school improvement program I coordinated received national recognition in 1983, I also did curriculum writing and staff development training for the school district.
