LINDA SCHOFIELD BALDWIN

Dorene and Linda DO ITALY
My Biography

After our graduation in 1955 I worked for the American Optical Company for about six months, then quit to prepare for my wedding. I was married to JBHS 1952 grad, Jack Baldwin (the best friend of my cousin Robert (Bob) Richardson - also a JBHS '52 grad) until 1973 when we divorced. My cousin Bob was married to JBHS '55 grad Dina Bowers until his early death in 1973. I have two handsome sons, William and Michael, each of whom is happily married to a wonderful lady and each with two great teenagers. Both of these families live within 30 minutes of my home in Corona, CA (next to Riverside), where I have lived for the past ten years.

Some of you knew my younger sister, Susan Adele Schofield Lescoe, JBHS grad of 1958. She died of pneumonia in 1990 after breast cancer metastasis.

I graduated from Chapman University with a Master's Degree in Health Administration after obtaining a BS in Health Sciences. I am a Registered Nurse, have a lifetime community college teaching credential and hold a credential as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ). I am a Past-President of both the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) and the Critical-Care Nurse Certification Board (CCRN).

In 36 years of nursing I have been a bedside critical-care nurse, Head Nurse in several units, paramedic liaison, mobile intensive care nurse instructor and textbook author, trauma center coordinator, quality/performance improvement and risk management director, and a nurse consultant. For years (to pay for alimony and teen-aged mouths to feed) I taught cardiac care to nurses at night school and Advanced Life Support to physicians on weekends.

Retirement arrived this year along with a few gray hairs and stiff joints. I have spent most of the time redecorating my home and writing a novel, The Wrong Disaster! and am now searching diligently for an agent or a publisher, which some of you know. I am part way into novel number two, as yet untitled, about risk issues in hospitals that usually get covered up - like infection and administration of the wrong blood and untimely death and such. (Subplots welcome - let me know if you have a gory story to share!)

I love to travel and have seen many areas of the United States - and intend to see more. I have been blessed to travel in Canada, Mexico, Ireland, England, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Germany and France and want to see most of these countries again. I used to say all it took was time and money - now I have the time!

I think we owe Denny, Carol, Terry, Fred, and Walt a big Burroughs cheer for all that they do in keeping the websites updated, opening chat rooms, planning class outings and more. Thanks to their work I look forward to chatting with you on Wednesdays, seeing you at our frequent "mini" reunions and talking with you at the BIG 50 in 2005!
