JOHN "JAY" WANAMAKER and SHARON
My Biography

After graduation from Burroughs, I went to University of Southern California and graduated as a Chemical Engineer. I went to work at Lockheed in January 1959 and married Sharon Thompson in February 1959. I worked at Lockheed 2 years, then went to work for the City of Burbank as Steam Plant Test Engineer. In 1966 I went back to Lockheed as a Materials & Process Engineer and stayed there for 32 years. In 1991 we moved from Burbank to Marietta, Georgia, when Lockheed left Burbank. I retired in 1999 after being a Senior Staff Scientist and Department Manager of the Composite Materials Engineering Dept.

Sharon and I had 4 children, Bill, Linda, Karen & Martha. We have 8 grandchildren, the oldest of whom just graduated from Burroughs in 2002. All of our children went to Luther Burbank Jr. Hi. and Burroughs. I played softball leagues in Burbank and Marietta until 1990, a total of 48 years, when I felt enough was enough. Since retirement, Sharon and I tutor 2nd. graders at Lockheed Elementary school, 2 or 3 days a week. I took up golf and tennis after retirement - old men's games! We travel quite a lot, mostly to Burbank to see parents, relatives and friends. We are active in church in Marietta and are involved with various local mission activities. We have come to enjoy the green woods of Georgia and the 4 seasons.
